About the Organisation

Manungurra Aboriginal Corporation (MAC) was established in 2006 to represent the interests of the Kunapa Estate group, who are recognised as traditional owners under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act (Northern Territory) and as native title parties under the Native Title Act 1993. The MAC directors are Kunapa people, and are recognised as the senior custodians and decision makers for Kunapa land. The Directors wish to create a future where their children enjoy the best of the modern Australian nation whilst retaining their unique identity and cultural standing as Kunapa people. To do this, they plan to play a strong and sustained role in the local economy and create jobs and income within the community.

MAC and their investment arm, the Manungurra Development Corporation, conduct community development projects on their land holdings in the Barkly region of the Northern Territory, in addition to providing education programs and health and emergency support to carers and family members who are seeking medical treatment outside the area. They also invest part of their wealth in property, financial institutions and in local businesses, including a local hotel.
